The discussion revealed that the already existing collaboration between USA and Norway in MI CDR, can be strengthened in the following:

·      Methodology for calculating CDR credits. There are several approaches for the voluntary market and no standards, guidelines, or regulations for the compliance market. An agreed approach is needed while waiting for international guidance. This will include:

o   Unified Life Cycle Analysis, with emphasis on the how to set boundaries for the systems under consideration.

o   Agreement on sustainability issues, including biodiversity, land and water use, societal issues, and other emissions and discharges.

o   Requirements, or at least best practices, for monitoring, reporting and verification/validation (MRV) of projects that claim negative emissions and CDR.

o   Framework for contracts between seller and buyer of CDR credits.
